Instructions for authors

1. Berkut publishes original papers, review articles, short communications, and notes on all aspects of ornithology. We accept manuscripts up to 40 thousand characters. Larger works can be published after prior agreement with the editors. Papers on the birds of Eurasia are preferred, but the publication of works on other regions is also possible. Our journal neither has article processing charges (APCs) nor article submission charges. Manuscripts are reviewed.

2. Works publishes in Ukrainian with English summary or in English with Ukrainian summary. Papers are also accompanied by a short abstract in the language of the manuscript. Captions for tables and illustrations are duplicated in another language. English text of summaries and captions can be translated into Ukrainian by the editors. After the summary and abstract, keywords are given (up to 5–7). The metric system should be used.

3. Manuscripts should be sent as files (*.doc format is preferable) to the editorial e-mail. A printout of the paper (PDF) should be attached to the file. On the title page of the manuscript, you have to indicate the affiliation with the full addresses and ORCIDs of all authors and e-mail of the corresponding author. To correctly design the “head” of the paper, see previous issues of the journal.

4. Pictures and photos should be sent as separate files. All illustrations and tables are numbered, they must be referenced in the text. Avoid too large tables. If numerous data are to be presented, an attempt should be made to divide them into two or more tables. Additional explanations essential for the understanding of the table should be given as footnotes at the bottom of the table.

5. The first mention of any species must include the scientific name (in brackets). The Latin names are italicised, for example: We studied the White Stork (Ciconia ciconia). The author name and the year of publication are given only in works on systematics. The names of birds in the tables are given only in Latin.

6. The numerical data must be accompanied by the necessary statistical information: the number of individuals or measurements, standard error or standard deviation, the significance of differences, etc. When analysing digital data (comparison of means, correlation, regression, etc.), it is necessary to evaluate statistical significance.

7. The list of references must include only cited sources, arranged in alphabetical order. The works of one author are given in chronological order. We use “an author and a year” system.
